Victor Events in May
In May, FGLK will run two trains on the Ontario Central Railroad, former Lehigh Valley tracks, from the Village of Victor to Manchester / Shortsville area and back. The Blues-n-Brews on Saturday, May 9 and a NEW Trip, “Throw Momma ON the Train,” on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10.
Saturday kicks off the season with the popular Blues-n-Brews trip featuring local musicians, The Black Caddy Blues Band. The trip is 3 hours and runs from 5pm – 8pm. Cash bar and lite fare offered onboard; dinners not available. “We provide munchies and beer and wine on these trips,” Salone says, “But we encourage you to have dinner near by at the many local restaurants in the Village.”
Sunday invites folks to “Throw Momma on the Train” with a pleasant two-hour trip down the tracks and back. Sponsored by Friends of the Railroad, Mom’s will receive complimentary carnations. Passengers are encouraged to bring their best story, song or poem, written or verbal, about their honorary moms. “We will give people a chance to share their short presentations about Mom on the microphone during the ride,” says volunteer coordinator Sue Stehling from Friends of the Railroad.
Finger Lakes Railway (FGLK) is predominately a freight railroad that transports over 18,000 carloads of goods to and from the Finger Lakes region of New York State. However, acting as a community railroad in the region, they also focus on the people in those communities. Operating on 154 miles of track within the counties of Ontario, Wayne, Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, Yates, and Schuyler, FGLK has a handful of passenger trips each month from May through December in each community.
